Construction is complete on the No. 3 and No. 4 wind turbine testing platforms at the Guangdong offshore wind power test base, with a single-unit test capacity now reaching up to 24 MW — ranking first in the world.
Located in Shantou city, Guangdong province, this is China's first offshore wind power test base. In recent years, China's offshore wind power industry has entered a phase of large-scale development, with rapid advancements in turbine technology and increased capacity. To address the need for large-capacity wind turbine testing and support the high-quality growth of the wind power and new energy sectors, CSG Guangdong Power Grid Corporation initiated the construction of the Guangdong offshore wind power test base in 2022. The facility aims to provide certification testing services and a public test platform for large-capacity offshore wind turbines.
By the end of December 2024, the No. 1 and No. 2 test platforms of the base had successfully completed the certification and testing of five new turbine models, ensuring the safe grid connection of several offshore wind power projects across the province. This has contributed to Guangdong's offshore wind power installed capacity surpassing 12 million kilowatts, securing its position as the national leader. With the addition of the No. 3 and No. 4 platforms, the base's total testing capacity has reached 82 MW, placing it among the top offshore wind power testing facilities globally.
